This Giorgio Armani foundation, launched in 2000, is marketed as one of the best foundations your money can buy for $69. For nearly two decades it's been used by countless A-list celebrities and celebrity makeup artists. Now in the new era of Tik Tok, the beauty gurus are still promoting this to a new range of shoppers with makeup brush swipes in sync with trending sounds and songs. However, what is never discussed in videos is the ingredients that create this foundation. Not only are we here to discuss the ingredients, but also the closest clean swap that looks exactly the same!!!
Let's talk ingredients first! Most people associate the higher price of an item with more quality ingredients, better packaging, and better wear or product life. However, in the beauty industry it is never "you get what you pay for" when it comes to products. For example this Giorgio Armani foundation on their website in the product description, actually claims clean ingredients make up this bottle of $69 foundation The website states:
"Luminous Glow, Lightweight, Comfortable, Natural Finish Foundation, Longwear Benefits: Medium buildable coverage, Naturally luminous, airbrushed finish, for all skin types" LUMINOUS SILK FOUNDATION incorporates high-purity pigments and strictly minimal, clean ingredients that are finely milled for fluid"
The website does have an ingredient list, in which, if you plug this info into the Think Dirty App it states there are many alarming ingredients. The first is fragrance, which is a word companies use to hide or not disclose a number of ingredients. On average the EWG skin deep website states, "when a company states their product contains "fragrance" the product was tested and contained an additional 14-29 non-disclosed ingredients to the consumer." Another ingredient actually also used that is alarming in this foundation is the parabens which have in many studies linked to breast cancer in women. Ultimately, with no clear idea of what ingredients are in this foundation, and with the given disclosures of known harmful ingredients one can connect the dots that there has to be another option out there.
I actually went into a Sephora for the first time in 10 years for a color match! Click here, for the video demo and story.
I wanted to be able to provide a swap that gives the exact coverage, and luminous flawless skin look without the unknown ingredients in the Armani foundation. I stepped foot in a Sephora which I have not done in a decade to get a color match. In store I asked for a sample so I could go home and put it side by side to our clean foundations we carry.
Testing the Armani Foundation:
From first swipe I could smell the fragrance in this product! LIKE WOW! I have not used a conventional foundation in a decade and I could not even imagine going on with my day with how strong the product smelled. Also, it was not a spa like scent or even a nice vanilla (LOL). It smelled like old powdery roses, even my mom could smell the product on my face! As far as how my skin looked, yes the foundation is true to its marketing claims. From the first swipe I knew the new Kosas revealer foundation would be the clean beauty version!
Kosas Revealer Foundation:
Kosas NEW revealer foundation is a clean mineral reef safe spf 25 foundation with medium coverage and an airbrushed skin finish. Very similar in description to the Armani foundation and from the picture above you can tell that they look almost identical on. However, Kosas gives full disclosure of ingredients on their website + this foundation has skin care like peptides, hyaluronic acid, and the clean spf. The Kosas foundation feels a little thicker than the Armani but I always add a drop of the ATHR Desert Sky Oil to my foundation and then the consistency feels identical to that smooth buttery melt into the skin feel. I would say this is a clear twin sister to the Armani if you are looking for a different option. Also the Kosas foundation is only $42 for a full bottle while the Armani foundation is at $69.
I definitely will not be giving up my Kosas Revealer Foundation and I hope this swap helps those who are looking for a medium coverage flawless foundation. Even just having the Armani on my skin for 15 minutes I could not be more proud of how far clean beauty has come. No longer is clean beauty like this farmer's market poorly performing product. It is out performing designer and luxury brands with ingredients and company standards that put the health of people above profits. This blog post and video was so fun to put together, make sure to comment below what your thought of this clean beauty swap!
